Smith Tower

Smith Tower: Seattle’s First Skyscraper

Fun Fact: When Smith Tower opened in 1914, it was the tallest building west of the Mississippi—so yeah, it was kind of a big deal.

Standing tall in Pioneer Square, Smith Tower is Seattle’s original skyscraper and still one of the most iconic buildings in the city. With its stunning white terra cotta facade and classic Beaux-Arts design, Smith Tower offers a glimpse into Seattle’s architectural past. Though no longer the tallest building, it still offers one of the best views in town. Hop in the vintage Otis elevator and ride up to the 35th-floor Observatory, where you can take in panoramic views of the city, Mount Rainier, and Elliott Bay.

The Observatory isn’t just about the view; it’s also home to the speakeasy-inspired bar, where you can sip craft cocktails while soaking in the atmosphere of Seattle’s roaring ‘20s. Whether you’re a history lover or just want a new perspective on the city, Smith Tower delivers a memorable experience from top to bottom.
